Acne Scar Treatment: Collagen Injections

I was doing make up on a photo shoot the other day. I was working with a very particular client. She likes a lot of makeup and has an opinion about everything.

For the most part, I understand what that is like. It is only natural to look our best and to have opinions about ways in which will help us to be the most beautiful.

This client had normal size lips, maybe a little small. I think she might have been a little bit self-conscience about them because she asked me as her makeup artist if she could line her lips.

She then proceeded to line the entire lip intensely. It was odd, given that most people do not even line there lips today. And, the photographer was not thrilled about it because he thought her lips looked unnatural. However, there was really nothing either of us could do.

After I finished the shoot, I wondered if maybe this client should have gotten some collagen injections in her lips. In my professional opinion, it probably would have looked a lot better if bigger lips were what she was going for.

After all, it is not uncommon for people today to use collagen as a method to fill the skin and plump it. In fact, collagen injections have been in operation for over 30 years.

Although many times people use collagen to enhance their features, there are other cosmetic reasons for the use of collagen. It can help with the removal or improvement of acne scars. Many people use collagen to help correct their wrinkles. Additionally, collagen can work as a corrector for any existing scars on the skin.

A lot of research has been done on the types of collagen that can be used in the skin. According to experts, the ideal filling material has certain qualities. First, it seamlessly incorporates itself with the body’s tissues. Second, it is simple to use and easily injected. In addition, it should be risk free.

And, lastly, you want the results to be permanent not to decrease over time. Although the collagen available today does not meet these ideals yet, scientists are working towards it and these are their goals for the future.

As of right now, collagen remains a great means to temporarily fill the skin. With the use of collagen, most patient’s defects should be lessened for a good 6 to 9 months. This is a good length of time and will most likely get longer as technology gets better.
