Acne Scars – Choices for Treatment

Whether you have adult acne scars now, or fear getting a few in the future, it’s always good to know what you’ll be up against. Specific acne scar treatment procedures will most likely be chosen by your doctor or dermatologist based on a few different attributes:

  • The particular type of acne scar that’s being dealt with.
  • How severe the acne scar that’s being treated is.
  • Your medical history, your age, and the condition of your health.
  • What you are thinking as far as acne treatment and how you want to go about it.

Although acne is habitual, or even if you only experience acne during your teenage years, the risk of acne leaving permanent scars on your face is always going to be there.

It doesn’t matter how you look at acne or who you are, there is always a risk of having permanent acne scars to remind you of your past experience with acne.

You can tell that a scar is an acne scar by its appearance. Acne scars tend to look like pits or craters. Another word for acne scars is “ice pick” scars, simply because it looks like someone took an ice pick to your skin at one time.

Simple acne treatment methods are known to decrease the level of risk for permanent scarring that’s associated with acne.

However, you need to keep in mind that there are acne treatment methods that are used by dermatologists in order to decrease the appearance of acne scar that are left on your skin as a result of acne.

Here are the acne treatment methods and what they are that are used by dermatologists around the world:

  • Autologous Fat Transfer – This particular type of skin treatment is mainly used for scarring which has ended up burying its ugliness deep into the skin. This treatment is known to have to be done again for some people that actually choose to go through with this particular treatment. What happens during this procedure is that fat is taken from a different part of the body and injected into the skin that has taken a beating from acne scarring. After the fat is injected, this will bring the acne scars higher.
  • Collagen Injections – This particular type of collagen that’s used for acne treatment originates from cow collagen. The collagen is injected beneath the surface of the skin in an effort to replace the natural collagen that was lost. This type of treatment is usually used in order to treat fine lines on the skin that are a result of aging, wrinkles that appear on the body, and any scars that are found on the skin.
  • Chemical Peels – When it comes to the chemical peels treatment, the top layer of skin is actually taken off by applying a chemical to the skin. When the top layer of skin is removed, this provides more of a chance for the skin to replenish itself as well as have a more attractive appearance. This type of skin treatment is used for scars, skin that’s damaged by the sun’s rays, and irregular skin pigments.
  • Dermabrasion – This type of acne treatment is used to rid the skin of smaller scars, acne scars, scars that are a result from surgery, and imperfections that are found on the surface of the skin. This procedure involves removing the two upper layers of the skin. Once these two layers of skin are removed, the surface of the skin will be much more attractive then when it was before this procedure.
  • Laser Resurfacing – This is primarily used to get rid of nasty wrinkles and scars that appear on the surface of the skin. The laser emits a power beam of light that burns affected skin away.
  • Punch Grafts – This procedure involves a hole being punched into the skin for the purpose of removing the scar. Once the scar is removed, the skin is replaced with skin that’s free of scarring. This type of skin treatment is found to be useful for deep acne scars.

If all of these techniques and treatment options have your head spinning, just remember: if you do your best to take care of your adult acne before it gets to an uncontrollable point, you most likely won’t be dealing with any scarring.

This is why it’s best to get on an acne system right away, with out procrastinating, before chaos ensues.
